MISSION STATEMENT
The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, to developing the potential of women and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

VISION STATEMENT
The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. will be a leading force in improving the lives of children and families in this community.

COMMUNITY COMMITMENT
The JLC annually reviews project proposals submitted by community agencies and/or League focus area committees. Final decisions are voted upon by the membership and are based on community needs, membership interest, and available League resources.

North Carolina Outward Bound School Scholarship Fund

North Carolina Outward Bound School awards scholarships annually to allow young people opportunities to attend wilderness courses. These are youth with great potential but little opportunity. On an Outward Bound course they can expand their learning in ways not experienced in the classroom. Scholarship funds also support Unity Projects designed to empower communities of young people to initiate compassionate social change in their high schools. These students return to their communities with the values of Outward Bound etched in their memories and into their daily lives.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina

As the largest hunger relief charity in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina works to end hunger.  We do this by supplying a network of over 500 nonprofit agencies and churches with food and essential grocery products.  These agencies are comprised of emergency pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, group homes for the handicapped, low income day care centers, and other similar programs serving low-income people.  Our anti-hunger work also includes community education about the problem of hunger and how it can be solved.  In addition, we engage in advocacy with public officials to encourage them to address both the short-term needs and the long-term causes of hunger.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1982 on a promise made between two sisters – Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. More than 20 years later, Komen is a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs. Working through a network of U.S. and international Affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, Komen is fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in communities around the world. Today, we celebrate the Power of a PromiseTM and how a single person’s vision can make a difference in the lives of millions.

Vision Statement
By focusing on breast health education and collaboration with local organizations, we will strive to save lives, improve breast health services and reach out to the underserved members in our community.

The national website is komen.org.  The Komen Charlotte Affiliates website is komencharlotte.org.

YMCA Community Outreach Program

The McCrorey and Harris YMCAs are working closely together to meet the needs of the Northwest and South Charlotte communities. These are just a few ways Community Outreach is improving people's lives:

  •   The McCrorey YMCA provides afterschool care for 120 5 to 12 year olds.
  •   The Harris YMCA provides free after school and summer day care for up to 100 children in the Pine Valley and Sterling Communities.
  •   Outreach funds provide scholarship assistance for youth to participate in sports programs at the McCrorey YMCA.
  •   The McCrorey YMCA is an important part of the REACH 2010 Initiative, providing 14 free weekly community-based exercise classes serving an average of 1,400 participants a month.
  •   More than 350 seniors (most on fixed income) are active participants in a variety of programs at the YMCA.
  •   The McCrorey YMCA serves more than 2,600 teens annually through after school, teen camp and summer "hang" out nights.

The YMCA provides mentors for teens, sends children to summer camp, helps teach valuable job skills, offers health screening for seniors, and much more. Each and every one of their Community Outreach programs reinforces our commitment to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

MISSION OF THE YMCA
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
